B2Gold secures large-scale gold mining permit in Mali
The Malian government has granted B2Gold Mali Resources SARL an exploitation permit for a large-scale gold mine at Menankoto-Sud, located in the Kéniéba Cercle of the Kayes Region. The permit, which is valid for a maximum of twelve years, follows the merger of the Bakolobi, Menankoto-Sud, and Bantako-Nord research permits via a decree issued on May 16, 2025.
Exploration work on the combined site identified an economically viable deposit. This development is expected to bolster the Fekola Complex, with the regional Fekola project projected to produce more than 150,000 ounces of gold annually by 2028. This move follows B2Gold’s July 2025 authorization to begin underground mining operations at the Fekola mine.
The project aligns with Mali’s mining code and local content laws, aiming to impact the local economy through employment and subcontracting. The decision comes amid ongoing dialogue between B2Gold and the Malian state regarding the governance and exploitation of the Fekola Complex.
