Mali gold mining permit developments

Overview

The Malian government has taken steps to regulate and expand its mining sector through the issuance and renewal of various permits. In August 2026, B2Gold Mali Resources SARL was granted a twelve-year exploitation permit for a large-scale gold mine at Menankoto-Sud in the Kayes Region. This project, which follows the merger of several research permits, is expected to support the Fekola Complex and is projected to produce over 150,000 ounces of gold annually by 2028.

Following this, in September 2026, the Council of Ministers approved the first renewal of four gold and group 2 mineral research permits. These renewals allow companies including Hongda Liujiu SARL, A. NA. DI. S SARL, and L’Horizon SARL to continue exploration activities in the Bougouni, Sikasso, Kangaba, and Kéniéba regions. These extensions provide an additional three years for geological surveys and drilling, marking a continuation of activity following a suspension of permit renewals that lasted from late 2022 to early 2025.
