Babu Owino clarifies The Mwananchi Party name change process

Embakasi East MP Babu Owino and The Mwananchi Party have released official correspondence from the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP) to clarify the chronology of the party's name change.

According to the documents, party principals sought clarification regarding the Linda Mwananchi name from the ORPP on August 4, 2026. Following a Gazette Notice published on August 28 to invite public submissions, the formal change from Muungano Party to The Mwananchi Party was officially effected on September 10, 2026.

The ORPP noted that while an objection to the name change was filed by Lawrence Nzunga on August 30, the petitioner subsequently withdrew the objection on September 8 after his concerns were addressed. The Registrar confirmed the name change was finalized pursuant to Section 20(5) of the Political Parties Act.
