Babylon Berlin to conclude with fifth and final season

The historical crime series ‘Babylon Berlin’ is returning for its fifth and final season. One of Germany’s most expensive productions, the series has been sold to over 140 countries and has received multiple awards, including the Grimme-Preis.

The final season focuses on the critical period in 1933 when the Nazi Party dismantled the fragile German democracy. Directors Achim von Borries, Tom Tykwer, and Henk Handloegten noted that the drama centers on the rapid transition to dictatorship following Adolf Hitler’s appointment as Chancellor.

While the series has been praised for its portrayal of the speed of political change and its contribution to historical awareness, some critics, such as author Uwe Wittstock, have pointed out historical inaccuracies. These include the depiction of Hitler’s medical history and certain atmospheric details regarding the winter of 1933.
