Bac Lieu land management probe recommends criminal investigation

An inspection in Bac Lieu province has revealed significant violations regarding land management and the issuance of land use certificates. Following inspection conclusion number 73/KL-TTT issued in August 2024, authorities have recommended transferring four specific cases to the police for investigation due to signs of criminal activity.

The inspection covered the implementation of a cadastral database project and the management of land use rights certificates. Notable findings include nearly 92,000 land use certificates that have not been delivered to their rightful owners in Gia Rai town and several districts. Additionally, delays were noted in the registration and issuance of certificates in Vinh Loi district.

Furthermore, reports indicate that 29 out of 30 officials previously holding positions in Bac Lieu have yet to undergo formal self-criticism or disciplinary review as recommended by the inspection. This includes five former leaders of the Department of Natural Resources and Environment, such as former directors and deputy directors serving between 2016 and 2020. Despite recommendations to the provincial leadership, formal disciplinary actions and follow-up instructions have not yet been implemented.
