Vietnam police arrest escaped prisoners and drug traffickers

A2 Prison escape drug trafficking human smuggling cross-border arrest Vietnam law enforcement

Authorities in Vietnam have made several significant arrests involving escaped convicts, drug trafficking, and organized crime.

In Khánh Hòa province, police successfully apprehended Lê Văn Cường, one of four inmates who escaped from the A2 Prison on October 21. Cường, who was serving sentences for theft and drug possession, was intercepted by traffic police on a passenger bus traveling along Highway 27C. Three other fugitives—Hồ Văn Tình, Lữ Văn Toàn, and Võ Hoàng Duy—remain at large following a nationwide manhunt.

In a cross-border operation, Da Nang police, in coordination with Vietnamese and Laotian authorities, arrested two high-profile drug fugitives, Phan Quốc Huy and Phạm Văn Tài, in Savannakhet, Laos.

Other recent law enforcement actions include the detention of Nguyễn Hữu Hiểu in Cần Thơ for drug trafficking and the arrest of Mai Nguyễn Như Ngọc and Nguyễn Văn Phương in Thanh Hóa for organizing illegal departures to Cambodia using ‘easy work, high salary’ lures. Additionally, police in Nghệ An detained approximately 30 individuals at the Bảo Sơn apartment complex on suspicion of illegal drug use.
