Back and Knee Pain Reveal Common Musculoskeletal Risks in Brazil

Morning lower‑back pain is a frequent complaint in the Brazilian state of Pará, where long hours of standing or sitting on public transport strain the spine. Experts note that poor daytime posture, stress‑induced muscle tension, and sleeping positions that do not support the natural curvature of the lumbar region can cause stiffness and pain upon waking, even when the mattress is adequate. The World Health Organization identifies low‑back pain as the leading cause of disability worldwide.

Knee pain that appears when climbing stairs may be an early indicator of chondromalacia, a condition in which the cartilage covering the joint gradually wears away. Risk factors include sedentary lifestyle, excess weight, postural misalignment and abrupt returns to intense exercise. Early diagnosis and targeted physiotherapy, muscle strengthening and biomechanical corrections are recommended to preserve joint function and prevent progression to osteoarthritis.

Both conditions highlight the importance of ergonomic habits, stress management and timely medical consultation to maintain musculoskeletal health.
