Backhaus wood storage blaze threatens historic complex in Bad Liebenzell

A fire broke out in a wood storage facility attached to the historic Backhaus building in Beinberg (Bad Liebenzell), Germany, on the evening of 28 May 2026. The blaze spread to the roof of the neighboring slaughterhouse, prompting fire officials to raise the alarm level and call in additional resources, including a ladder unit from Schömberg.

Around 70 firefighters, twelve fire engines, as well as rescue and police personnel worked to contain the flames. Using the ladder, crews opened sections of the roof to target hidden hotspots, preventing the fire from further engulfing the complex. No injuries were reported. The incident caused approximately €30,000 in property damage, primarily to the slaughterhouse roof, while the Backhaus and nearby fire department magazine escaped major harm. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Local officials, including the district fire chief, deputy fire chief, and the deputy mayor of Bad Liebenzell, inspected the site, and thermal imaging cameras were used through the evening to detect any remaining embers.
