Bad Reichenhall spa records increase in overnight stays, H1 2026

The Bavarian state spa comprising Bad Reichenhall and Bayerisch Gmain logged 459,944 overnight stays in the first half of 2026, a rise of 4,770 (1.05%) over the same period a year earlier. Guest arrivals fell by 3,139 (‑3.10%), but longer stays offset the decline.

Average length of stay rose from 19.07 to 22.41 days, driven largely by the spa’s clinics, which accounted for 155,809 nights – roughly one‑third of all visits. Spa director Dirk Sasse said, "Each additional overnight stay is an economic gain for our hosts, gastronomy, retail and many tourism service providers," adding that higher tourist‑tax revenues will be reinvested in local infrastructure.

Both municipalities benefited: Bad Reichenhall saw a 1 % increase in overnight stays despite a 3.4 % drop in arrivals, while Bayerisch Gmain posted a 2.1 % rise in stays despite a slight dip in guest numbers. The trend underscores the growing importance of health tourism to the regional economy.
