Bavarian tourism trends in 2026

Tourism data for 2026 indicates varied trends across the Bavarian region. In the first half of the year, the Bavarian state spa area of Bad Reichenhall and Bayerisch Gmain reported 459,944 overnight stays, a 1.05% increase compared to the previous year. Although guest arrivals in this specific spa region fell by 3.10%, the total number of stays rose because the average length of stay increased from 19.07 to 22.41 days, largely due to clinic visits.

On a broader scale, tourism across all of Bavaria showed a 2.0% increase in guest arrivals during the first half of 2026, totaling approximately 18.6 million. However, overnight stays for the entire state grew more modestly by 0.5%, reaching nearly 46.3 million, suggesting that the average duration of visits across Bavaria is not increasing at the same rate as the volume of visitors.

As the year progresses into the summer and autumn months, regional festivities have become a major driver for tourism. In the Franconia region, the Sandkerwa festival in Bamberg attracts an estimated 200,000 visitors with traditional activities like the ‘Fischerstechen’ (fisherman's joust) on the Regnitz river. Other prominent highlights include the Gäubodenvolksfest in Straubing and the Rosenheimer Herbstfest. While beer prices vary by location, they generally remain lower than those at the Munich Oktoberfest. Destinations such as Landshut and the Schladming-Dachstein region also remain significant for cultural and slow-travel tourism.
