Badajoz Airport records highest passenger traffic in nearly two decades
The Badajoz airport in western Spain reported its strongest traffic in almost 20 years. Between June 2025 and May 2026 the airport handled 114,353 passengers, a 22.5 % rise over the same period a year earlier. May alone saw 10,598 travelers, 21 % more than in 2025, making it the busiest May on record, while flight operations grew 66.2 % to 497 movements. Ground handling is performed by South Europe Ground Services, part of the IAG‑owned Aena group, which employs 11 staff at Badajoz and plans to add another worker as activity rises. The airport shares facilities with the Talavera Base, supporting commercial, military, medical, private and charter flights, as well as diverted traffic from Lisbon and seasonal hunting‑season private aviation.
