Mannheim derby violence leaves 120 injured and triggers security crisis meeting

A DFB-Pokal match between SV Waldhof Mannheim and 1. FC Kaiserslautern at the Carl-Benz-Stadion resulted in widespread violence, leaving 120 people injured. The casualties included 35 police officers and 85 spectators, with eight individuals requiring hospital treatment. The match, which Mannheim won 1-0 after extra time, was marred by riots, the use of pyrotechnics, and a pitch invasion.

Baden-Württemberg Interior Minister Manuel Hagel has called for a crisis meeting in Stuttgart on September 3, involving seven football clubs to discuss future security strategies and stadium alliances. The German Football Association (DFB) is also conducting an investigation into the incidents.

In addition to the crowd violence, the 1. FC Kaiserslautern squad is under suspicion of damaging the visiting team's locker room. Photos released by the 'Rheinpfalz' show significant debris and damaged ceiling panels in the dressing area, a claim confirmed by Mannheim officials while Kaiserslautern has yet to comment.
