Baden-Württemberg reports rise in organized crime amid drop in transit offenses

In Baden-Württemberg, police reported an increase in organized crime cases during 2025. Interior Minister Manuel Hagel noted that criminal networks are becoming more professional and internationally active, posing a threat to the rule of law. There were 46 organized crime investigation proceedings, a ten percent increase from 2024, with drug offenses accounting for over half of these cases. Cybercrime and economic crimes also remain significant priorities.

To combat these trends, the state launched the Taskforce Finanzkriminalität Baden-Württemberg in July 2025 to target the financial structures of criminal networks and seize illegal profits.

Conversely, crime in public transportation saw a decline in the same period. Aggression against passengers dropped by approximately ten percent, with 302 victims recorded. Total offenses in public transport areas, including stations and buses, fell by nearly eleven percent compared to 2024. This decrease is attributed largely to fewer violations of immigration laws and an 18.4 percent drop in fare evasion. Passenger surveys indicate a relatively high sense of security at stations and on trains.
