Crime trends in Baden-Württemberg

Overview

In Baden-Württemberg, 2025 crime statistics show diverging trends between organized crime and public transportation offenses. Organized crime investigations rose by ten percent, totaling 46 proceedings. Interior Minister Manuel Hagel noted that criminal networks are becoming “more professional and internationally active,” with drug offenses comprising over half of these cases. In response, the state established the Taskforce Finanzkriminalität Baden-Württemberg in July 2025 to target criminal financial structures and seize illegal profits.

In contrast, crime in public transportation areas, including stations, buses, and trains, declined by nearly eleven percent compared to 2024. Aggression against passengers fell by approximately ten percent, with 302 victims recorded. This decrease is attributed to an 18.4 percent drop in fare evasion and fewer violations of immigration laws. Despite the statistical decline, safety remains a sensitive issue due to violent incidents against staff and passengers. Consequently, Deutsche Bahn is considering equipping approximately 2,700 station service employees with body cameras to enhance protection.
