Baden-Württemberg reports violent crimes and traffic safety trends

Baden-Württemberg authorities have reported a series of violent crimes and significant updates to traffic safety statistics for the first half of 2026.

In criminal matters, police recorded several serious incidents, including two knife attacks resulting in life-threatening injuries. In Ubstadt-Weiher, a 51-year-old man was arrested for allegedly stabbing his son-in-law. Another stabbing occurred in Pforzheim, where the suspect remains at large. Additionally, two 19-year-old men were arrested in Stuttgart-Bad Cannstatt in connection with a heavy injury incident from July.

Regarding road safety, Interior Minister Manuel Hagel announced that traffic fatalities in the region decreased by 14.4% in the first half of 2026, totaling 161 deaths. While overall accidents rose slightly by 2.2%, there has been a notable increase in accidents involving e-scooters, particularly involving minors. Speeding remains the primary cause of fatal accidents, accounting for nearly 40% of deaths.
