Regional data for 2026 shows conflicting trends. In Baden-Württemberg, fatalities for the first half of the year decreased by 14.4% to 161 deaths, though overall accidents rose by 2.2%. Interior Minister Manuel Hagel noted that speeding accounted for nearly 40% of these deaths, alongside an increase in accidents involving e-scooters, particularly involving minors. In the Swabia South/West region, fatal accidents rose by 37.5% and fatalities by 50% during the same period, with significant increases among those over 65 (57%) and young adults aged 21 to 25 (150%).

In the Mittelbaden region, the Offenburg Police reported a surge in fatalities. In the first eight months of 2026, 30 fatal accidents resulted in 33 deaths, surpassing any annual total since 2022. Victims included motorcyclists, car occupants, cyclists, and pedestrians. Police are intensifying controls at hotspots like the A 5 and B 500 in response to reckless driving and improper speed.
