Badminton Association of Malaysia targets titles and new sports science director
The Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) is implementing several strategic initiatives to enhance national player performance and support. For the upcoming Allianz Malaysia Super 100 tournament in Johor, scheduled for October 13–18, BAM has set a target of winning at least two titles, relying on the preparation of its developmental and youth squads.
To bolster high-performance structures, BAM is in the process of appointing an international expert as its full-time Sports Science and Medicine Director. A candidate has been shortlisted and offered the position, with a proposed start date of January 1. This move aims to provide more comprehensive medical and scientific support to meet increasing global competition standards without replacing the existing roles of the National Sports Institute.
Additionally, BAM President Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz has called for public support for Malaysian players ahead of the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya. He responded to criticisms regarding the players' chances of winning medals, emphasizing the importance of allowing athletes to focus on competing and proving their capabilities on the international stage.
