Badminton in Malaysia: From Lee Chong Wei to the Allianz Super 100

The Malaysia Open has a storied history in badminton, highlighted by the dominance of Lee Chong Wei, who secured 12 men’s singles championships between 2004 and 2018. One of his most notable victories involved defeating Kento Momota at the Axiata Arena, ending Momota’s 21-match winning streak.

Looking forward, the Allianz Malaysia Super 100 tournament is scheduled to take place in Johor Bahru. The event will feature over 40 players from the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM). Allianz Malaysia, a sponsor of BAM, recently visited the PETRONAS Akademi Badminton Malaysia to express support for the athletes as they prepare to compete on home soil.
