Badminton World Championships begin in New Delhi

The BWF World Championships in New Delhi, India, serve as a critical evaluation period for the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) following recent roster and pairing adjustments. Datuk Seri Lee Chong Wei, Chairman of the BAM Performance Committee, stated that player performance will be judged on fighting spirit and competitiveness against top-tier opponents rather than results alone.

Malaysian men's doubles pair Tee Kai Wun and Man Wei Chong have reunited for this tournament after a period of separation and injury. Tee Kai Wun expressed confidence in their restored chemistry and noted that while they are in good condition, they are managing physical discomfort from previous tournaments. The pair received a first-round bye and faces a potential matchup against teammates Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik in the round of 16.

BAM is using these championships to determine the most effective combinations as part of the long-term preparation for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic qualifiers. While men's singles players Leong Jun Hao and Justin Hoh are not yet considered title contenders, they are expected to demonstrate maximum effort during their matches.
