Bagnoli remediation reaches 85% completion ahead of America’s Cup
At a conference organized by Università Parthenope, officials and industry leaders discussed the environmental remediation and sustainable regeneration of contaminated sites in the Campania region, with a specific focus on the Bagnoli-Coroglio area and the ‘Terra dei Fuochi’.
Davide Pelenghi of Greenthesis reported that the remediation work at the strategic Bagnoli site is 85% complete. This cleanup is being positioned as a prerequisite for hosting the 38th America’s Cup in May. The event is expected to serve as an economic and touristic accelerator for the Naples metropolitan area, transforming a former industrial site into a venue for international sailing.
The conference emphasized the need for a multidisciplinary approach, moving from mere environmental surveillance to active territorial regeneration. Examples of successful redevelopment include the transformation of the former Arsenale into a green campus for students, highlighting the goal of turning reclaimed industrial lands into functional community assets.
