Bahia cities face extreme UV radiation levels through the weekend

Multiple cities in the state of Bahia, Brazil, are expected to experience very high to extreme ultraviolet (UV) radiation levels through the upcoming weekend. In Salvador and Feira de Santana, the UV index is forecasted to reach levels between 10 and 11, classified as extreme.

Other regions, including Paulo Afonso, Juazeiro, Remanso, Senhor do Bonfim, and Morro do Chapéu, may reach a maximum index of 12. Authorities from Inema note that while these levels are high, they remain within the expected climatological patterns for this period.

Health officials recommend increased caution during sun exposure, particularly between 10:00 and 16:00. Recommended precautions include using sunscreen, wearing hats and UV-protective sunglasses, and maintaining hydration. Experts warn that cloud cover does not guarantee safety, as up to 80% of UV radiation can penetrate clouds.
