Bahia issues over 46,000 free bus tickets for election runoff
The Bahia state government’s ‘Operação Vai e Vota’ has issued 46,132 free intercity bus tickets to facilitate voter movement for the second round of elections. Since the initiative began on October 20, approximately 1,200 extra bus schedules have been provided to meet the high demand.
The volume of passengers has exceeded levels seen during the São João festivities and is approaching the traffic typical of major holidays like Easter or year-end celebrations. To manage the flow, the government anticipated the start of free travel to 6:00 PM on Friday and allowed for the advance issuance of return tickets.
While the operation has been largely successful, some routes have reached their operational capacity limits. Authorities from Agerba and Procon-BA are monitoring bus terminals to oversee service quality and assist passengers. Officials noted that vacancies may become available due to cancellations or passenger withdrawals.
