Bahia Governor defends security record during political debate

During a televised debate hosted by Band Bahia, Governor Jerônimo Rodrigues defended his administration's public security record, emphasizing that government priority is reflected in budget execution. Rodrigues highlighted significant investments, including the hiring of 11,000 police officers, firefighters, and experts, which has increased the workforce by 30% compared to twenty years ago. He also noted the delivery of 6,600 vehicles over three and a half years, the inauguration of 273 police stations and battalions, and the acquisition of drones and helicopters.

Rodrigues reported a decrease in violent deaths, stating they fell by 13% in 2025 and saw a further 20% reduction in the first half of this year, with Salvador experiencing a nearly 30% drop. He stated, “I do not go easy on criminals,” and noted that the strategy now includes targeting the financial structures of organized crime.

Opposing candidate ACM Neto criticized the current administration, arguing that the government has failed to deliver on promises made in 2022 regarding partnerships with the Federal Government and is currently attempting to shift responsibility for lack of results.
