Bahia legislature approves 5.3% pay raise for state schoolteachers

The Bahia Legislative Assembly (ALBA) approved a bill that provides a 5.3% salary adjustment for teachers in the state public education system, to be implemented in a phased manner. The proposal, identified as PL 26.209/2026, calls for a 3.3% recomposition on salaries practiced in 2025 with retroactive effect to 2026, plus an additional 2% increase starting in July, benefiting teachers of elementary education among others.

The measure was advanced on Tuesday amid attempts by the opposition to obstruct the vote. The approval formalizes the adjustments within the state’s education policy and will apply to elementary school teachers as part of the phased plan.
