Bahia modernizes Duque de Caxias school in Salvador with R$22.5 million investment
The Government of Bahia, led by Governor Jerônimo Rodrigues, handed over a R$22.5 million modernization of the Colégio Estadual de Tempo Integral Duque de Caxias in the Liberdade neighbourhood of Salvador on 17 July 2026. The upgrade adds 31 climate‑controlled classrooms, eight laboratories, a library, multipurpose rooms, a student restaurant, and an auditorium seating 115, as well as a covered poly‑sports court, a soccer‑society field, locker rooms and a guardhouse.
The school now serves more than 1,500 students and is integrated into the Programa Bahia pela Paz, which seeks to reduce youth violence and strengthen community ties. Retired teachers who spent decades at the school highlighted the emotional and historic significance of the new facilities for the local community.
