Bahia Justice Court expands health, social and legal services
The Tribunal de Justiça da Bahia (TJBA) rolled out its Justiça em Território initiative, delivering medical care, vaccination, rapid testing, dental cleaning and counseling to residents of Ilhéus on 22 July. Municipal health secretary Sonilda Mello highlighted the joint effort between the city and the judiciary to bring essential services to the community.
The same programme was replicated in Itabuna on 23 July at the Fórum Ruy Barbosa, where officials offered Cadastro Único updates, information on BPC and Bolsa Família, free legal assistance, a children’s area and guidance on enrollment for a professional school. Participants praised the integration of health, social and legal aid in a single location.
During the July 24 session of the TJBA’s Órgão Especial in Ilhéus, the court signed a technical cooperation pact with the State Penitentiary Administration, the Federal University of Bahia and other partners to launch the “Diga aí – Escutas do Indizível” project. The scheme will provide psychological support to inmates convicted of femicide‑related crimes, aiming to reduce recidivism and improve mental‑health outcomes in prisons across Salvador, Barreiras, Itabuna, Lauro de Freitas and Vitória da Conquista.
In parallel, the IX Conferência Estadual da Advocacia Baiana convened in Feira de Santana on 29‑30 July, featuring 24 panels on artificial intelligence, digital law, data protection, tax reform, democracy, electoral integrity and gender‑focused justice. Speakers included Supreme Court Justice Cármen Lúcia Antunes Rocha and Labor Court Justice Cláudio Brandão.
