Brazil courts broaden outreach and justice services
Entities: Tribunal de Justiça da Bahia · Judge Robério Monteiro de Souza · Judge Euler José Ribeiro · Ordem dos Advogados do Brasil – Seccional Bahia · Desembargador José Edivaldo Rocha Rotondano
Overview
In May 2026 Brazil’s regional labor courts began auctioning seized assets at deep discounts to meet labor‑debt obligations. By early June analysts warned of procedural bottlenecks, urging firms to keep local counsel in remote states, while judges debated video‑conferencing for labour disputes. Late June attention shifted to small‑claims courts and the equity of self‑representation. In July the Bahia Justice Court relocated its headquarters to Ilhéus and Itabuna and staged the itinerant “Justiça em Território – Presença que Transforma” fair (22‑24 July). The event combined legal advice, health services, free land‑title registration, programmes on racial equity, child‑abuse prevention, domestic violence and modern slavery. It processed 28 regional cases, issued about 140 REURB titles and engaged 800 municipal students on racism, domestic violence and the Digital Child Statute. Medical services, vaccination, rapid testing, dental care and counseling were provided, alongside updates to Cadastro Único, BPC and Bolsa Família information, free legal assistance and a children’s area. On 24 July the court’s Órgão Especial signed a pact launching the “Diga aí – Escutas do Indizível” project, supplying psychological support to inmates convicted of femicide‑related crimes in several Bahia cities. The IX Conferência Estadual da Advocacia Baiana (29‑30 July) featured panels on AI, digital law, data protection, tax reform, democracy, electoral integrity and gender‑focused justice. Later in July the tribunal inaugurated the “Direito de Saber – Aprender Direitos. Construir Futuros” project, formally signed by President Desembargador José Edivaldo Rotondano, to teach fundamental rights, civic duties and judicial access to public‑school students in Ilhéus and Itabuna. The same decree introduced the OAB Dativa system, a 60‑month partnership with the Bahia Bar Association that rotates dativo lawyers when public defenders are unavailable, aiming to broaden qualified defense. On 27‑28 July the judiciary extended its outreach.
