Brazilian municipalities face various judicial and administrative investigations

Various judicial and administrative actions are underway across several Brazilian municipalities involving public oversight and legal compliance.

In Buriticupu, Maranhão, the judiciary suspended the appointments of two brothers, Gilvan Mascarenhas de Lima and Gilberto Mascarenhas de Lima, to commissioned positions. The move follows a request from the Public Ministry of Maranhão (MPMA) regarding potential nepotism and violations of a Conduct Adjustment Agreement (TAC).

In Bahia, the Public Ministry has initiated several proceedings: in Paratinga, an administrative procedure was opened to monitor water supply regularity following resident protests; in Poções, the MP recommended suspending land subdivision authorizations due to potential conflicts with federal law and municipal master plans; and for the Military Police, the MP recommended rectifying a public contest notice to ensure inclusion for candidates with disabilities.

Additionally, the Federal Public Ministry (MPF) is investigating several municipalities in southern Bahia for alleged misuse of Fundeb resources, specifically regarding the application of VAAT complementary funds for infrastructure and early childhood education.

In Mato Grosso, a judge suspended the election of the Association of Mato Grosso Municipalities (AMM) due to alleged irregularities in statute changes and the election process. Meanwhile, in Mâncio Lima, the local government authorized a public auction for the sale of unused municipal assets to fund capital investments.
