Bahrain Grand Prix generates RM345 million for Malaysian MSMEs

The hosting of the Bahrain Grand Prix at the Sepang International Circuit has generated an estimated RM345 million economic spillover for local micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in Malaysia. The event attracted 261,000 spectators, with nearly half expected to be foreign tourists.

Minister of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives, Steven Sim Chee Keong, stated that the positive impact reflects the role of large-scale international sporting events in stimulating national economic activity. The benefits are particularly felt by MSMEs in sectors such as accommodation, food and beverage, retail, transportation, and entertainment.

Spectators at the event are projected to spend 2.17 times more than during typical events. Minister Sim noted that foreign tourists generally have higher spending levels due to longer stays and increased expenditure on shopping and leisure activities.
