Bahri expands fleet with $451 million tanker order
Saudi Arabian shipping company Bahri has signed a SR1.69 billion ($451 million) contract with International Maritime Industries (IMI) to construct three very large crude carriers. Each vessel will have a capacity of 320,000 deadweight tonnes, with deliveries expected in batches between 2029 and 2030.
This agreement is part of Bahri’s fleet modernization strategy and supports Saudi Arabia’s efforts to develop domestic maritime manufacturing. The new order brings the company’s total orders for vessels built within the Kingdom to nine, following a previous order for six geared Ultramax dry bulk carriers.
In a separate development, Bahri Dry Bulk was named Bulk Operator of the Year at the Marine Insight Global Awards 2026. The company was recognized for its safety standards, including zero fatalities and zero oil spills in the second quarter of 2026, as well as its role in transporting essential commodities like grains and fertilizers across global trade routes.
