Bahri and IMI tanker construction agreement
Overview
Saudi Arabian shipping company Bahri signed a contract worth approximately SAR 1.692 billion ($451 million) with International Maritime Industries (IMI) to construct three Very Large Crude Carriers (VLCCs).
Each vessel will have a capacity of 320,000 deadweight tonnes and will feature advanced energy-efficiency technologies. Deliveries are expected in phases between 2029 and 2030. The agreement, announced during the Saudi Maritime & Logistics Congress, is part of Bahri’s fleet modernization strategy and aims to support the localization of shipbuilding capabilities in Saudi Arabia in alignment with Vision 2030. This project brings Bahri’s total orders for vessels built within the Kingdom to nine for the year, following a previous order for six geared Ultramax dry bulk carriers.
