Baia Mare: Train collides with sewage sludge truck at level crossing

A passenger train traveling on the Dej–Baia Mare route collided with a truck at a level crossing without barriers near Baia Mare, Maramureș. The impact caused the truck, which was carrying sewage sludge from the Baia Mare wastewater treatment plant, to overturn and spill its contents across the road.

Approximately 100 passengers were on the train at the time of the incident. Emergency responders, including SMURD medical teams, evaluated both the truck driver and the train passengers; no injuries were reported. Both the truck driver and the locomotive engineer tested negative for alcohol following the collision.

Preliminary police investigations suggest the truck driver failed to stop at the level crossing. An excavator was used to clear the spilled sludge from the roadway, and the train resumed its journey after a delay of several dozen minutes.
