BAIC launches its first electric vehicle, the T1, in Indonesia

BAIC introduced its inaugural electric vehicle for the Indonesian market, the BAIC T1, at a ceremony in Tangerang on 9 July 2026. The launch opens a pre‑order window from 9 July to 30 July, with the first 50 customers offered a price around IDR 300 million and benefits such as special financing, a portable charger, a dash‑cam and a chance to win a car. BAIC aims to sell 1,000 units by year‑end and plans to shift from fully imported units to local assembly with up to 60 % local content by next year.

The hatchback crossover is equipped with a 42.3 kWh lithium‑iron‑phosphate battery delivering up to 425 km (CLTC) on a single charge, fast‑charging capability (30 % to 80 % in 25 minutes), and unique Vehicle‑to‑Vehicle and Vehicle‑to‑Load charging functions (up to 3.5 kW). It features a 2.34 m² panoramic roof, 12 ADAS safety systems, OTA software updates, and a six‑speaker audio system. Buyers receive a six‑year vehicle warranty, eight‑year battery warranty and four years of free service. "The launch of BAIC T1 marks the start of our long‑term commitment to new‑energy mobility in Indonesia," said Dhani Yahya, COO of PT JIO Distribusi Indonesia, while CEO Johnnathan Salim added that the model expands the company's portfolio after introducing hybrid BJ30 and BJ40 models.
