Baja California recovers from Tropical Storm Rachel as Hurricane Trudy approaches

Tropical Storm Rachel has caused significant damage in Baja California, particularly in the municipality of Ensenada and the San Quintín area. Authorities report at least eight deaths, including four minors, and two individuals remain missing. The storm also impacted approximately 1,500 homes and caused losses of roughly 200 head of cattle.

In Ensenada, flooding affected the local desalination plant, disrupting water supplies for a portion of the population. Infrastructure damage includes roads, bridges, and crops. In response, President Claudia Sheinbaum announced federal support, and the Secretary of Welfare, Leticia Ramírez Amaya, is scheduled to visit the affected regions to coordinate relief efforts alongside Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila.

Simultaneously, Mexico is preparing for Hurricane Trudy, which is expected to reach Category 4 strength. President Sheinbaum has urged citizens in coastal areas and near rivers to seek shelter as the storm approaches the Pacific coast, specifically near Colima and Jalisco, and is expected to bring heavy rains to several other states.
