Baja California Holds Human‑Rights Training for Migrant Care on World Anti‑Trafficking Day

The Directorate of Citizen Attention and Priority Groups, in partnership with the State Human Rights Commission of Baja California, the Subsecretariat of Attention to Priority Groups, Fundación La Puerta A.C., and the Autonomous University of Baja California, organized a training workshop in Tecate on July 24, 2026, coinciding with the World Day Against Trafficking in Persons. The workshop aimed to strengthen the tools and knowledge of officials who assist people in mobility contexts, emphasizing a human‑rights‑based response and violence prevention. Participants examined the main challenges faced by migrants, reviewed the state’s background on violence prevention, and were introduced to flowcharts developed by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) for identifying trafficking victims and streamlining case handling. The training was delivered by César Grijalva of the State Human Rights Commission. Municipal mayor Román Cota’s administration reaffirmed its commitment to inter‑agency coordination and ongoing capacity‑building to provide more humane, sensitive, and comprehensive care for vulnerable migrants.
