Latin America anti‑trafficking efforts

Since late July 2026, Mexico and Uruguay have continued to expand anti‑trafficking initiatives launched earlier in the month. In Mexico, the Federal Prosecutor’s Office and the National Institute of Criminal Sciences trained more than 250 officials on multidisciplinary response, reinforcing the capacity‑building emphasized at the World Day conference. Uruguay’s Ministry of the Interior sustained its national “No miremos para otro lado” campaign, keeping public awareness of trafficking indicators high.

The United Nations‑designated World Day against Trafficking on July 30 prompted a coordinated regional push. Guatemala’s vice‑president announced the “Corazón Azul” awareness drive, while Argentina held a digital‑environment trafficking training for over 400 police cadets, gendarmes and prosecutors. The Dominican Republic illuminated key monuments in blue to signal its commitment, and Panama convened a second national meeting to strengthen inter‑institutional coordination. These actions, together with the ongoing efforts in Mexico and Uruguay, illustrate a broad Latin American commitment to improve prevention, detection, victim assistance, and public engagement against human trafficking.

The series of workshops, campaigns, and symbolic gestures across the region underscores a shared resolve to combat a crime that violates fundamental human rights.
