Baja California boosts heart‑attack care, health caravans and heat alert

Baja California’s health system has expanded its Red Código Infarto network and a free hemodynamics suite at the Hospital General de Mexicali, reporting the rescue of 1,171 lives and a drop in heart‑disease mortality from 83.7 to 69.4 deaths per 100,000 residents. In 2026 the program treated 106 patients, performed 32 coronary procedures and 23 angioplasties, targeting over 1.09 million adults without social security and using equipped intensive‑care ambulances for rapid transport.

From July 21‑25 the state deployed mobile health caravans in Mexicali, San Quintín and Tijuana, offering free medical, dental, laboratory and imaging services, vaccinations for people and pets, and health‑education activities. The IMSS in Baja California also promoted a wide range of community courses and workshops on arts, sports, nutrition and digital skills through its social‑security centers.

Facing an El Niño‑driven heat wave, the state health secretary announced a public‑health alert, reinforcing the “Verano Seguro” program with additional hydration stations, free oral rehydration solutions and targeted outreach to vulnerable groups such as the homeless, outdoor workers and drug users.
