Baja California Sur reports rise in domestic violence cases

Domestic violence cases in Baja California Sur have increased by approximately 9.2% compared to the same period last year. According to data from the Secretariado Ejecutivo del Sistema Nacional de Seguridad Pública (SESNSP), 2,103 investigation files were opened between January and July 2026, up from 1,926 during the same timeframe in 2025.

The majority of these incidents are concentrated in the state's most populated municipalities. Los Cabos recorded 1,033 cases, followed by La Paz with 840. Together, these two municipalities account for approximately 89% of the total investigations in the state.

Baja California Sur currently ranks fifth nationally in the rate of domestic violence per 100,000 inhabitants, with a rate of 192.03. This figure is significantly higher than the national average of 102.91.
