Baja California targets economic growth through SME reform and tourism investment

In Baja California, legislative and tourism leaders are focusing on economic stability and infrastructure growth. Deputy Evelyn Sánchez Sánchez has proposed a reform to the Law for the Promotion of Competitiveness and Economic Development. The reform aims to move beyond initial startup support to provide a comprehensive model for micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs), including technical assistance, monitoring, and evaluation to ensure business permanence and formal job creation.

This legislative push follows reports that Baja California saw the closure of over 9,600 formal businesses and the loss of more than 13,000 formal jobs during 2025.

Simultaneously, the Tijuana Tourism and Conventions Committee (Cotuco) has announced a Binational Hotel Investment Forum scheduled for August 27 in Playas de Rosarito. The event aims to attract international investment to the Tijuana-Rosarito-Ensenada corridor and the Cali-Baja region. The forum will feature major hospitality brands, including Marriott, Hilton, and Wyndham, to discuss market trends and new hotel and real estate projects.
