Bačka Palanka citizens protest anniversary of political violence

Students and citizens held a protest march in Bačka Palanka to mark the anniversary of violent incidents that occurred on August 11 and 12, 2025. Demonstrators expressed frustration over the lack of institutional response and the failure to prosecute those responsible for the previous year's violence.

During the previous incidents, supporters of the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) reportedly attacked citizens with eggs, water, pyrotechnics, and bottles, resulting in several injuries. Protesters in Bačka Palanka carried banners with messages such as ‘Serbia or the mafia’ and demanded accountability for the attacks that targeted men, women, children, and the elderly.

The commemoration included 17 minutes of silence: 16 minutes for the victims of the canopy collapse in Novi Sad and one minute for a boy who died following contact with an electric cable in Bačka Palanka. The protest march passed by the police station, the prosecutor's office, and the municipal building.
