Bosnia and Herzegovina political tensions escalate ahead of general elections

As the upcoming general elections in Bosnia and Herzegovina approach, political tensions are escalating across the country. Bakir Izetbegović, leader of the SDA, warned that the elections are the most significant since the end of the war, criticizing the current ruling coalition (the Troika) for failing to deliver on promises regarding the gas law, BHRT, and cultural institutions. He further claimed that Bosniak political influence has decreased by 30 percent and that corruption has halted highway construction financing.

In contrast, ethnic Croat and Serb leaders are raising concerns about the stability of the state. Mario Karamatić of the HSS has called for an absolute blockade of government formation if Bosniaks elect the Croat member of the Presidency. Meanwhile, Slaven Kovačević of the DF warned that discussions regarding the federalization of Bosnia and Herzegovina could serve as a precursor to the country's breakup.

In Republika Srpska, SNSD candidates, including Željka Cvijanović and Savo Minić, are campaigning on themes of stability and unity to protect the entity's interests. Additionally, Aco Stanišić has launched an initiative to support the DST Agricultural Cooperative with 650,000 KM to provide at least 1,500 sheep, an action that has drawn scrutiny regarding its timing during the election cycle.
