Bakker Bart Waalwijk franchise ends after 23 years

After more than 23 years operating the Bakker Bart bakery in Waalwijk, sisters Mari Klerks (64) and Mia Klerks (59) announced they will step down as franchisees. The shop will close its doors for the final time on Friday 31 July at 14:00, allowing customers to say goodbye. From Monday 3 August the bakery will reopen under a Bakker Bart store manager, with many familiar staff members retained, so daily service will continue as before.

The Klerks family decided not to renew the franchise agreement, citing high workload—Mari worked over 80 hours weekly—and a desire for a slower pace at their ages. Mia will increase her hours in elder‑care work, while Mari plans to rest briefly before seeking a new full‑time position. The transition marks the end of a long‑standing local presence that began in 2003.
