Dutch long‑standing shop closures

In July 2026 two well‑known local establishments in the Netherlands ended their decades‑long operations. On 25 July, the sisters Mari and Mia Klerks announced that their Bakker Bart bakery in Waalwijk, which they had run for more than 23 years, would close on 31 July. The franchise will reopen a few days later under a store manager, retaining most staff, allowing daily service to continue.

A few days later, on 29 July, the historic tavern ’t Tapperijke in Hoeven closed its doors for the final time after 40 years under owners Kees and Anja Broos. The owners hosted a farewell reception, handed the premises back to the municipality of Halderberge, and were honoured by the local council.

Both closures illustrate a broader pattern of long‑standing Dutch local businesses transitioning out of family or private hands in mid‑2026, either by transferring management or relinquishing the site to public authorities.
