Baku Metro begins major infrastructure project to separate transit lines
Baku Metro has initiated a major infrastructure project to separate its Green and Red lines, allowing for independent movement along each route. This transition marks a significant shift for the city's transport system, as the two lines have shared the ‘28 May’ station for 50 years.
As part of this restructuring, train movement between the ‘28 May’ and ‘Nizami’ stations has been suspended. While the ‘28 May’ station remains operational for passengers from 6:00 AM to 12:00 AM, Green Line trains will now operate on the Dərnəgül-Nizami route. On the Red Line, train intervals have been reduced to 2 minutes and 30 seconds.
The construction work is expected to last approximately 11 months and involves the creation of two 200-meter tunnels. To assist commuters during this period, the Azerbaijan Land Transport Agency has designated 6 express bus routes and 20 regular bus routes to facilitate travel between the Green and Red lines.
