Baku Metro infrastructure restructuring

Baku Metro has launched a major infrastructure project to separate its Red and Green lines, which have shared the ‘28 May’ station for 50 years. The restructuring involves constructing two 200-meter tunnels to allow for independent movement along each route.

During this transition, which is expected to last approximately 11 months, train movement between the ‘28 May’ and ‘Nizami’ stations has been suspended. While the ‘28 May’ station remains operational for passengers between 6:00 AM and 12:00 AM, Green Line trains are operating on the Dərnəgül-Nizami route, and Red Line train intervals have been reduced to 2 minutes and 30 seconds. To support commuters, the Azerbaijan Land Transport Agency has implemented 6 express bus routes and 20 regular bus routes.

These transit changes are anticipated to impact the local rental market. Real estate experts suggest that shifts in passenger routes may influence residential choices, particularly for students who may prioritize housing closer to academic hubs like the ‘Elmlər Akademiyası’ station to avoid increased travel times and costs.
