Balearic Islands allocate tourism tax funds to water and security

The Sustainable Tourism Tax (ITS) in the Balearic Islands has funded over 357 projects with a total investment exceeding 1,000 million euros. The 2026-2027 annual plan focuses heavily on water management and the environment, which account for over 53% of the total budget, followed by historical and cultural heritage at 18.6%.

In the Migjorn region of Mallorca, 5.9 million euros will be allocated to improve water infrastructure across five municipalities: Campos, Felanitx, Llucmajor, Ses Salines, and Santanyí. These funds aim to modernize networks, reduce leaks, improve drainage, and increase municipal reserves.

Additionally, the municipality of Calvià will receive approximately 17 million euros. This investment is split into two strategic blocks: over 8.8 million euros for municipal works and urban renovation, and nearly 8 million euros dedicated to the repositioning and security of Magaluf. The Magaluf project includes increasing local police presence, improving video surveillance, and supporting the Foreign Tourist Assistance Service (SATE).
