Bali Governor expands monthly mangrove planting with schools and businesses

Governor Wayan Koster pledged to broaden Bali's mangrove reforestation by conducting monthly planting drives that involve schoolchildren, local entrepreneurs, community groups and other stakeholders. The initiative was announced on World Mangrove Day 2026 at the Batu Lumbang eco‑tourism site in Ngurah Rai Forest, with the presence of environment and fisheries ministers. Koster noted that Bali already hosts over 3,000 hectares of mangroves across Badung, Denpasar, Jembrana, Klungkung and Buleleng and that continual planting is essential for coastal ecosystem protection.

In a related effort, FINNS Bali partnered with the Bali Youth Parliament for Water to sow 1,200 Rhizophora mucronata seedlings along the Jimbaran coast in Badung. The activity engaged 55 volunteers from environmental groups, youth organisations and local fishermen. ESG manager M. Abdul Manaf said, “Mangrove is Bali’s natural defence wall,” emphasizing its role in preventing erosion and supporting sustainable coastal development.
