Bali launches waste‑to‑energy plant as PLN schedules power outage

Danantara Indonesia began construction of Bali's first waste‑to‑energy (PSEL) facility in Pedungan, South Denpasar. The project aims to turn municipal waste into electricity, addressing environmental, health, climate and economic productivity challenges.

On Monday, 20 July, PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) announced a temporary power cut in Gianyar and Kuta as part of maintenance and strengthening of the island's distribution network. PLN said the work is intended to improve reliability of electricity supply for residents.

Both developments reflect Bali's ongoing efforts to modernise its energy infrastructure and reduce dependence on conventional power sources.
