Bali Police intercept 22 green turtles in suspected smuggling attempt

The Bali Police Water and Air Police Directorate intercepted a suspected wildlife smuggling attempt near Serangan Island in South Denpasar. Officers discovered 22 live green turtles (Chelonia mydas) on an unmanned blue boat parked along the coast.

The discovery followed community reports regarding illegal wildlife activity in the area. Police noted that the vessel did not match the typical boats used by local fishermen. Authorities believe the perpetrators fled the scene upon noticing the patrol team's arrival.

The turtles are currently receiving care and are expected to be released back into the wild following health assessments conducted in coordination with the Bali Natural Resources Conservation Agency (BKSDA Bali). Under Indonesian conservation law, those responsible for smuggling protected species face up to five years in prison and a fine of up to Rp100 million.
