Bali Strait ferry crossing faces heavy congestion due to logistics truck surge

A surge in logistics truck movement has caused vehicle queues of up to 8.5 kilometers at the Bali Strait crossing, specifically affecting the Ketapang Port in Banyuwangi heading toward Gilimanuk, Bali. PT ASDP Indonesia Ferry (Persero) reported that between September 27 and 29, 2026, a total of 6,082 trucks crossed the strait, with daily numbers rising from 1,699 on Sunday to 2,223 by Tuesday.

During this three-day period, the ferry operator served a total of 18,067 vehicles and 61,330 passengers. ASDP President Director Heru Widodo issued an apology for the inconvenience, stating that the company is focusing on accelerating the dispersal of queues by optimizing vessel and pier capacity while maintaining safety standards.

Operational challenges also included low tide conditions at Gilimanuk Port on Wednesday morning, which caused delays in vessel docking and cargo handling. While congestion was significant at Ketapang, conditions at Gilimanuk remained relatively smooth.
